Hey, it's Friday! I've been saving this one for today, the Friday before Halloween:

Trick or Treat...?

I know it's November 2nd, but I left my camera at my mom's house and just got it back. So pretend it's still Halloween, m'kay?

Little Boy gave Halloween two thumbs up at the end of the night. Wanna see what we did?

We made Halloween sugar cookies a few days before. The mini M&Ms were supposed to be for making faces, but when it got down to it, Little Boy decided they made better polka dots.

Little Boy was so looking forward to carving a pumpkin with Isaac. Until...

...we made him touch the pumpkin guts. He sobbed and insisted on washing his hand right away. Yes, we are excellent parents.

This is what happens when you leave the pumpkin carving to the boys--you get a picture of a monster truck crushing a car. Rendered in pumpkin.

We ate mummy dogs for dinner. Thanks for the idea, Pinterest!

Looks gross, huh. Blood and guts potatoes are a Halloween tradition 'round here.

This is the best shot I have of Little Boy's costume. The cuteness comes through, though, right?

This is the top of Little Boy's hat. My favorite part of the costume, if you wanna know.

We didn't do this on purpose, but we ended up trick-or-treating on a street that got hardly any trick-or-treaters at all. Little Boy got the pick of whatever (handfuls of) candy he wanted.

Which explains the two thumbs up.

Bonus photo! My sister works at a thrift store, and Halloween is the store's busy season. The employees were encouraged to dress up, and they had a different costume theme every day. Can you guess the theme for the costume she's wearing?

(Hint: You can't tell in the photo, but she's wearing a fancy dress that's a little...um...out of style.)

They're Creepy and They're Kooky

Me, trying to put together a Halloween playlist: "I had no idea that the Munsters theme song was such a popular cover." Isaac, who is a guitarist: "It IS! It's so fun to play!" Who knew?!

Halloween '08

Yeah, I posted these pictures last year. But who wants to go looking through my archives to see them again? That's what I thought.

 So. Last Halloween in review. We put Little Boy in an apron, gave him a handful of Sharpies, and let him have at his pumpkin. He took it very seriously, as you can see--he always sticks out his tongue when he's concentrating.
 

 And here's the two of us (Isaac didn't dress up). I was a pirate--argh!--and Little Boy was a clown. You can see a little bit of his costume at the bottom of the photo. No face paint for him--he hates gooey things.


This Halloween will probably be a lot like the last one. Light on candy, heavy on "scary" movies. Y'know, like "Ghostbusters" or "Casper". The really terrifying ones. Oh, and we'll dress up. We have some...different...costumes planned for this year.

Little Boy's First Halloween

Lately I've been noticing the fact that--duh--Little Boy isn't a baby anymore.

So I was being all nostalgic and looking at pictures from when he was a baby, and I found one from his very first Halloween. He was less than two months old. My mom made him a little orange hat with a green stem on it:

 

The little punkin. Of course, he couldn't be bothered to wake up for the picture.

Pickin' Punkins

Guess what--these pictures are from yesterday. I know! Usually I'm blogging pictures from at least two weeks ago.

Anyway, Little Boy got to pick out a pumpkin from his grandma's garden yesterday. (Yesterday! Yes!) He had three choices:

He picked the one with the cool scars on it. Awesome. This pumpkin will be one scary jack-o-lantern.

Photo Tuesday Extravaganza: Apples, Pumpkins, Pirates, and Clowns

Last week was a busy week. Here we go....

My mom took us apple picking at a local farm. I had never picked an apple before. Lame, I know. But in my defense, I have picked other fruits. Just not apples. Anyway, it was fun.
Little Boy was a little uncertain at first. It was his idea to get in the cart, though.


See? Farm. I don't know how big the farm is, but it looked...big.


All done. We only picked the one bucket-ful. Little Boy was so cute---my mom, my sister, and I would pick the apples; then we would hand them to Little Boy and he would run down and drop them in the bucket. He loved it.

On the day before Halloween, we went to my mom's house to carve pumpkins. Actually, my sister carved a pumpkin and Little Boy colored a pumpkin.
 
Here he is, Sharpie in hand. I was smart enough to put an apron on him, but not smart enough to notice his exposed sleeves. D'oh! Anyway, he colored all over that thing. It was awesome.


Isaac helped get the other pumpkin started.


These are the finished products. Nice, huh?

And then...there was Halloween. I posted earlier about not trick-or-treating, but we did dress up. For fun, I guess. Little Boy dressed up as a clown this year, just like last year, but in a different clown costume. Look:


This is last year. He wore Isaac's (and Isaac's brothers') old clown costume from when they were little tykes.


Arrrrrrrrrrrr. This year, Little Boy wore the clown costume that my siblings and I wore when we were little. How's that for family traditions? And from both sides of the family! But Little Boy did not just dress up as any old clown....


...he dressed up as a clown...that golfs. A golfing clown.

That wasn't really part of the costume, but he carries that putter around with him all the time. He wants to be just like his daddy, who is also a clown that golfs.

All in the Family

I was just reading Talk To Me Tuesday over on Tip Junkie, where there's a post about family-themed Halloween costumes---and I remembered the one-and-only time my family had a sort-of theme going on at Halloween. I don't have a picture of this (sorry) because it was at least ten years ago.

This was when my sister was still a baby. My mom dressed her in a black sweatsuit, with a white stripe down the back, and made a stuffed skunk tail that fastened around my sister's waist. Then my dad, who works at an oil refinery, borrowed a gas mask and a hazmat suit from one of his coworkers. Good thing my sister was too little to remember it later, huh?

Spookables and Terribibbles

I've been trying to create an age-appropriate Halloween for Little Boy. For the last week or two, I've checked out Halloween stories and videos from the library. He probably won't remember this Halloween next year, but at least he'll have a vague idea of what's going on right now. His newest words are "buttin" (pumpkin) and "doast" (ghost). He loves that doasts say, "ooooooOOOOoooo". And he loves to point out buttins wherever he sees them.

Last night we watched Frankenpooh and Spookable Pooh (from the library, of course). Little Boy doesn't usually get to watch an hour's worth of cartoons, so it was quite an event to him. Lucky kid.
