I'm Andrea, and this is my personal blog. Thanks for being here! I usually post on Fridays and Sundays, when I share something that makes me happy or a spiritual thought for the week. Sometimes I manage to squeeze in another post or two.

30-Second Book Review: Skippyjon Jones

skippyjon jones Skippyjon Jones is a little kitty-boy whose head is too beeg for his body, and whose ears are too beeg for his head...so he's convinced that he's a Chihuahua. Skippyjon goes on imaginary adventures in his closet with his pretend Chihuahua pals, the Chimichangos. My mom gave us some Skippyjon Jones books when Little Boy was born, and I put them away because they were too long for his baby attention span. And then I forgot all about them. And I still don't know where they are, exactly. But! I saw this at the library and snatched it up. We don't have this one at home: skippyjon jones and the big bones And let me tell you, these books are fantastic for reading out loud. So if you have a three-ish year old kid in your life, I highly recommend them. Important note: Skippyjon also appears in some board books. I don't really recommend those. They're more about teaching colors and stuff....sorta...and don't have much story to them. Not so good for reading aloud. And they don't even do a very good job of teaching, in my opinion.

Consistency in Doing Seemingly Small Things

“Each family prayer, each episode of family scripture study, and each family home evening is a brushstroke on the canvas of our souls. No one event may appear to be very impressive or memorable. But just as the yellow and gold and brown strokes of paint complement each other and produce an impressive masterpiece, so our consistency in doing seemingly small things can lead to significant spiritual results. ‘Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great’ (D&C 64:33).”

See Ya Later, Crib...

Little Boy spent his first night in a crib when he was almost exactly three months old. [Don't worry, the mobile was tightly secured and there was no way he could reach it.]

He used to sleep in his car seat a lot, too.

This week, three years after he first slept in his crib, he slept in his Big Boy Bed for the first time. We even got out a "new" blanket for the occasion. [Isaac's mom made that quilt when Little Boy was tiny, but it's been too big for him until now.]

I was a little sad to see the crib go. And not just because I can't stick him behind bars anymore. Big Boy changes always make me a little sad.

Sleep sweet, Big Little Boy.

The Yarn Octopus Looooves You

Octopus. Valentine's Day. Hmmm...

 pink yarn octopus

I've been trying to use up some of my yarn scraps. I used this tutorial to make a yarn octopus out of some pink yarn that I wasn't using for anything else...and then realized that the octopus just happened to match my Valentine's Day decorations. But what does an octopus have to do with Valentine's Day?

I don't know. Octopuses (not octopi, fyi) have lots of arms, so...they're good at hugging? That's Valentine-y, right? I'm going to go with yes. Because the octopus looks pretty darn cute with all my other pink decorations.
